Our creative process

Our products came out of passion and love for objects around us. We developed a certain need to surround ourselves with beautiful things. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a ceramic cup, a wooden table or a cotton throw. We simply realized that living with things that are well made and have a story behind them puts us in a good mood and makes us who we are.

We’re both design enthusiasts, creatives and keen collectors, so soon after we started living together, it became quite clear that this shared love of design and fine craftsmanship was going to take us somewhere fun. It first started as a project combining our two passions – drawing and photography and, before long, we took it a step further and began designing objects for everyday use.

Why

The reason why we decided to make our own line of products is because we needed them (and we thought you might too). It’s that simple.

It’s extremely important for us to make things we’d actually want to buy. We design most of the products ourselves but as we have many creative and talented people around us, we also like to collaborate with other friends and designers. But still, each piece is designed especially and only for In August Co. We use and test all of them at our home, holiday cottage and studio to make sure that they really work.

Craft & Materials

We make some of our products ourselves, but most of them are handcrafted in small workshops in the Czech Republic. Karolina comes from the Vysočina region, and that’s also where most of our workshops are. We’re very excited to have the chance to team up with professionals, craftsmen and also sheltered workshops. The social part of the business is one of the most important things for us.

We admire good craftsmanship, we love learning about materials, and we’re happy to show you the production process from the early stages until the finishing touches. We make sure to know the most of where they come from, and how they’re made, be it textile, paper, ceramics or wood. We aim to source most of the materials we use locally, and to offer you the best quality possible.

Our goals

Our main goal is to create beautiful things, things we’d all want to use in our daily lives. Having fun while making them is, of course, a nice perk.
We want to create original, authentic and sustainable products with the highest level of craftsmanship.
We design small series of products, which will brighten up your normal day, make you smile and make you feel at home no matter where you are. Nothing more, nothing less.
We want to make things, that mean something to the people who craft them, as well as the people who use them.
The idea is to inspire people to surround themselves with beautiful handcrafted things, that bring joy and consciousness into their everyday lives.
We think that the world is pretty perfect already, but there’s always room to make it a little bit better. We believe this is the way.

ZERO WASTE Production

We aim to be a zero waste production. However, making products is a creative process, so it happens that there’s material waste from time to time. We don’t want to lie about that. But we do care about minimizing our waste as much as possible, and to recycle it properly if there is some. We measure materials for prints such as textile or paper exactly for the right format. Sometimes you can’t avoid the battle between sustainability and design.

Product packaging

Being respectful to the environment is extremely important for us, but we also want your package to get to you all nice and beautifully wrapped.
We usually buy zero waste groceries for our home, but we also enjoy and appreciate when someone puts an extra thought into packaging.
So we struck a compromise – 50% of our packaging materials are reused (plastic & paper), the other half is new, but recycled. We aim to use as little plastic as possible. It’s not that we hate it, but we’re aware it’s being overused so we want to avoid it as much as we can.
We love paper, it’s easier to recycle, it’s naturally based and we simply love to smell it, touch it and work with it.
When you unpack our product, please, save the papers and bubble foil and reuse it later. And we’ll all be happy.
