In August Company isn’t just a brand, it’s a feeling.

That feeling you get when something nice is happening around you. When you’re hanging out with your friends, talking, drinking good wine and eating lovely food while sitting in a cosy courtyard somewhere in the world or… When you’re on your bike or scooter, the sun is low, it’s a bit chilly and windy and you’re feeling free, knowing you have great people around you… When you see some people you’ve never met before but you feel an instant connection with them as if they were your family. Your company.

In August Company means “to be in good company”… of things as well as people. We are strong believers that surrounding yourself with objects that are well-made can only be a good thing. Take buying a proper mug, for example. You know that it’s hand-made and unique, and you can imagine each piece is carefully crafted by a person who has given it their time, care and soul.

I’ve always been quite sceptical about buying things. We don’t buy much but when we do we look for quality and fine craftsmanship. We think this is the right time and place to focus on the production process. Yes, we could have our products made in China, sell them for less and earn more, but if everyone decided to go down this road, what would become of us?

What’s the point? What would happen to western countries if we didn’t support the local market and think more about the people who actually make the things we use?

We choose to support small workshops and we are proud to be working with them although it may be a bit challenging at times and makes the whole process much more time-consuming. Sometimes we need to wait a bit longer to see the outcome of our hard work but we believe this is the right way to do it.

For us, it’s all become very real, yet the big picture is still a little blurry. We’ve always wanted to do this and now our ideas and feelings are finally shaping into actual objects.

Sometimes we find it hard to explain to people what the project is all about. We’re getting better and better at describing it, but it’s one of those things that can’t be fully put into words, you just have to feel it. We hope we will, or perhaps already have, pass this feeling on to you.

That’s our mission for now.
