Always hand-wash your wooden essentials. Never place a wooden tray or other wooden items (such as cooking spoons) in the dishwasher or submerge them in a sink full of water, as they may warp or crack. Occasionally, apply a food-safe oil that does not become rancid to prevent drying out. If you notice that your wooden tray, board, or knife has become rough, possibly from excessive water exposure, you can restore them by sanding and oiling to regain their original appearance.
